THE CROSS is a new church plant that is located in Tyler, TX. A core group began meeting on November 3, 2008 at the Smith Baptist Association discussing the possibilities of establishing a church and continued to meet and pray throughout the month of November. On December 7, 2008 the core group began worship services and held it first communion services together. THE CROSS is committed to 1)worship 2)missions/ministry with excellence and relevance!
A church plant is a church that is in it's beginning stages. Our church is structuring its' leadership, worship services, and ministries in efforts to be a healthy, growing, visible, and viable ministry. The process of "planting" a church is much like a natural "plant", which the hope of growth and bearing fruit occurs if it is nurtured and tended to. While common phrases for this process have been starting or orqanizing( i.e. Most things that start will stop; Organizing deals with structure but don't promise activity and service), we lean to planting because there is a hope for fruit for many years to come that will continue to produce fruit.
While there are many good churches, it has been studied and proven that one of the best tools to evangelizing a lost community is by planting a new church. Many churches are dying and declining in membership because the focus of reaching people is not the center of their focus, because of all the other aspects of "having church". The fresh views and excitement of "another church that is like no other" will always be a blessing to any community because it can commit itself fully to serving and loving.
A core group is a vital part of a new church plant, because it serves as the center and catalyst for how the church grows. The makeup of the core group is diverse, but is united in its' efforts by being cooperative and supportive.
While there is a very detailed plan that is available upon request (i.e. entitled THE VISION), we are seeking to be a healthy church in South Tyler that is fully committed to loving and connecting with relevance and excellence. We are committed to this plan by staying true to our mission statement, which expresses our emphasis on preaching, teaching, and reaching (i.e. Reaching Up to the Master, Reaching Out in missions, Reaching in with ministry). We have action plans that are measurable and a strategic team in place, which will aid in staying focused on THE VISION.
You can expect to be in a loving environment with refreshing and timely worship . From the time that you arrive you will find greeters that are waiting to greet you with a smile and welcome you to THE CROSS. Prior to morning service, you will hear music and people talking as it is natural to not only greet one another but to be really friendly. Expect uplifting music, powerful and relevant preaching, and getting out in a timely fashion feeling good!
